SAN JOSE, Calif. – Interior designer and “Queer Eye” star Bobby Berk has teamed up with PayPal to produce a new video series dedicated to helping Americans confined at home find new ways to configure their spaces and plan for the holidays.
Called “Berking from Home,” the content series includes design solutions, product recommendations and budget tips for common household challenges like homeschooling the kids, self-care, remote working and celebrating the holidays presented by Berk over a series of four videos. It also includes information about Pay in 4, a new payment installment program from PayPal that splits purchases into four interest-free payments every two weeks,
Informed by new research it conducted earlier this year, PayPal said it found that consumers are struggling to share space amid the pandemic, with 27% of Millennials and Gen-z now working from their bedrooms and nearly quarter working from their living rooms. With space for fitness, relaxation and communal living now being restricted, the survey also found that more than one in three people who work or attend virtual classes from home three or more days a week report feeling overworked, while 62% admit to having an argument with family or partners they live with while working from home during lock down.
“With more than two-thirds of people working from home three-plus days a week more likely to purchase multi-function products, and over one-third of single parents planning a strict budget for holiday spending this year, there are a number of smart, simple and affordable design solutions and products that can help to create a more harmonious space at home,” Berk said. ”
Berk also noted in the release that Pay in 4 makes it “that much easier to manage buying all of these new items when costs add up.”
For Millennials, Gen-Z and families struggling with shared spaces, Berk offers the following tips to make communal spaces more enjoyable:
- When updating your space for a home office, keep things stylish and functional. Skip the office chair and opt for an accent chair that has a little bit more style but just as much function.
- Consider updating your at-home classroom with a portable mini projector and pop-up screen to project your kids’ lessons.
- For your space for self-care, the right song can get you amped up for your workout or totally zen for a meditation, so a portable speaker can be a great accessory for your space.
- Want to make it a holiday to remember? Add a mixer that can be used year after year to bake those holiday treats for your neighbors and to send to those you aren’t seeing this year.
