HO CHI MINH CITY – The Handicraft and Wood Industry Assn. of Ho Chi Minh City has launched an online platform that will allow its manufacturing base to showcase their products virtually to buyers around the globe.
The HAWA Online Platform for Exhibition (HOPE) is a digital platform that HAWA developed as an alternative to a physical show during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The platform, which went live Aug. 7, aims to showcase thousands of products offered by select Vietnamese manufacturers and exporters. Search features lets buyers select these producers by product category.
Through various apps such as LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Facebook and Viper, buyers will have the opportunity to interact with and/or search various exhibitors’ lines on a 24/7 basis. In addition, buyers can receive updates on trends and other information about the Vietnamese woodworking industry by participating in various seminars, webinars and other online events offered through the platform.
The platform is kicking off with about 50 participating exhibitors, a number that is expected to grow to about 100 virtual showrooms in 2020.

I’m Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
