AT THE MARKET – Case goods and accent furniture importer Jofran, Inc. has named Kristen Connell president, a role previously held by Joff Roy, who until recently was president and CEO.
In her new role, Connell reports to Roy, who remains CEO. She has been with the company 10 years as chief financial officer and for the past six years has also has been director of operations. Before joining Jofran, she also was a lead accountant for the company’s accounting firm.
The president’s role combines her role as CFO and director of operations. In addition to accounting and overall operations, she also will oversee administration, supply chain and logistics and warehouse operations.
Roy will focus on sales, product development, vendor management and overall strategy.
“She is incredibly bright and is very well rounded in terms of understanding general business structure,” Roy said, adding, “She is a natural leader and she has a particularly steady way about her – she is able to evaluate and execute without a lot of emotion tied to it…She has just proven herself to be invaluable to us.”
I’m Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
