SAN DIEGO – Home office and home entertainment furniture manufacturer Martin Furniture has named Jim Goergen CEO.
He fills a position currently occupied by Gil Martin, a former aeronautical industry professional who founded the company in 1980 in his garage with some $400 in capital and a Sears Craftsman table saw, according to the company website. Martin will step down from that role but will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors and help steer the company towards future growth.
Goergen comes to the company from building materials resource Evermark LLC where he was chief operating officer for the past two and a half years.
Before that, he was chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Legends Furniture and was chief operating officer at Brighton Collectibles. He also worked at Architectural Millwork Design Inc. and Powell Home Fashions.
“Jim is the right leader for Martin Furniture,” Gil Martin said. “Jim has extensive experience and relationships in our industry. I think he can strengthen our channel partnerships, develop strategic alliances and expand our sale presence. He’ll be an excellent addition to our team.”
I’m Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
